The twin brothers Greg and Tim Hilderbrandt worked collaboratively as fantasy and science fiction artists. Born on Jan 23 1939 in Detroit Michigan. They began painting professionally in 1959. There popular works include; THE LORD OF THE RINGS calender 1976, STAR WARS poster 1977, Marvel Comics SPIDERMAN 1993, D C Comics SUPERMAN 1995. Greg also did the cover art for Black Sabbath's MOB RULES album and a series titled 'AMERICAN BEAUTIES', pin up art that that he started in 1999 which benefits the families of New York firefighters and EMS workers killed on duty.In 2010 Greg Hilderbrandt received the Chesley award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.Terrance Brown Director of the Society of Illustrators in New York described the Hilderbrants as amoung the roots of U S popular culture.Their agent Jean Scrocco recalls their extraordinary method for the 6ft wide painting of the Lord of The Rings illustrations, one brother would start at one end and other at the other end and they met at the middle.Tim Hilderbrandt died in June 2006
